Chapter 2
Josefina Montoya, the main character of our book, lived in 1824 on a rancho in New Mexico. These pictures are of the El Rancho de las Golondrinas (the book illustrations are based on this rancho) that is located not far from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Josefina's lived in a place very similar to this.

1. Read chapter 2 of the book and write one paragraph (8--10 sentences) about how her childhood was different from the childhood kids have today in your country or in the United States. Include examples from the chapter.
If you were a child, would you rather live in Josefina's time or now? (80 points)
2. Choose five (5) new words that you find useful and include them and their meanings. (10 points)
This should be uploaded by March7. To do so, please scroll down the page and post them in the "COMMENTS" window.
3. Then read all posts of your classmates, choose two and write one comment for each post (the total of two). (10 points)
Your posts should be meaningful, not just "this is great!". If you like your classmate's post, explain why or what you like about it. Remember: have fun, but do not forget to respect other people's opinions and be polite! I hope we will have an interesting discussion!
Your comments are due by March 11.
If you have questions, please email them to natalia.s.dovzak@lonestar.edu
Happy blogging!

Meet Josefina (Chapter 2)
1. Josefina is a nine years old girl that have three sisters: Ana, Francisca, and Clara. They lived in a rancho with their father. Their Mom died one year ago. Every day they washed the clothes. They washed them in the river and they played together. Abuelito had a caravan that traveled from place to place he was the grandfather of the four sisters. They love him a lot because he told those stories and the beautiful journey he made. Also, he brought them surprises. This time the surprise was Tia Dolores, she is the sister of their mother. They were very happy about the surprise and they talked a lot about her. And she played a little bit on her piano that was the only thing she brought with her from Mexico City.
Josefina and her family were very poor but happy, and had many new things to do. Their life were very hard and difficult but they made it more fun and they enjoyed it.
Now in 20 centuries, each kids have a cell phone, IPad or laptop. Now communication disappeared, they don’t play together, talk together, and even they don’t look at each other if there are talking. The biggest problem this days are the new technology for the under 18 ages. They are not capable to speak well, they don’t enjoy their childhood in playing with others, or went to new places and play. This is a big problem that must be change at least for the kids. We must to let them enjoy the little details in their life because they couldn’t return to them after.
If I’m a child I will live like Josefina and enjoy all the moment of my life with the people that I love and discover new things and be strong and mature.

Today's technology is increasingly modern, children need attention, care, daily conversation between children and parents.
